Christian Service

Christian Service Commission

The Christian Service Commission exists as a model and resource of Catholic social teaching to enable the entire parish communication to put the social teaching of the Church into action. The Commission empowers the members of the parish to fulfill the Church's mission of love, justice, freedom and peace under the mantle of evangelization by communally responding, in an organized way, to societal and individual needs. "We know well enough that Our Lord does not look so much at the greatness of our actions, nor even at their difficulty, but at the love with which we do them."  - St. Therese of Lisieux

Pro-Life

Although abortion plays a central role in Pro-Life Issues, the Life Issues Committee covers a broad range of ethical principles that address the universal dignity and sanctity of human life including, but not limited to, abortion / post-abortion healing, conscience protection, biotechnology, end-of-life issues, and Natural Family Planning.

EXPECTANT MOTHERS SUPPORT

Praying Hearts Prayer Shawl Ministry

A year-round Works of Mercy group that uses their talent of crocheting or knitting to make shawls, and blankets while in prayer.   These items are blessed by Fr. Slaton then made available to parishioners to give to the sick, elderly, bereaving, or anyone who is struggling with their faith.  God’s love and comfort is wrapped around them, giving them the feeling they are not alone, the presence of God is always with them.

Freewill donations are accepted and new members are always welcomed.

Funeral Luncheon Committee

St. Joseph's Parish is pleased to serve a luncheon for family and friends of the deceased if requested.  Family of the deceased should contact the Church Rectory during regular business hours at 734-848-6125.  All individuals associated with the funeral luncheon must enter/ exit the Dining Hall via the Gym Lobby.  Funeral luncheons on a school weekday have a strict 2-hour window from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Seasonal Projects

Thanksgiving Day Baskets are boxes of random, donated food items collected at the Thanksgiving Day Mass and distributed to needy families in the Erie area.  This project is coordinated with the Erie Food Closet hand-out.  Interested families must call Heather at the Rectory for additional assistance.

The St. Joseph Coat Drive accepts winter coats and jackets, new or clean and gently used, from Thanksgiving until the middle of December.  Donations are offered to local shelters.

The Angel Tree Project is launched in  October of each year for students up to 18 years of age living in our parish boundaries.  Tags are selected by parishioners who purchase and wrap these Christmas gifts for families who are having financial difficulty.  Interested parties must submit required information to the Rectory for consideration by the Angel Tree Committee.

The Senior Care Package Program is targeted for our Seniors age 90 or over, homebound, or in assisted living/nursing care. We collect donations beginning in November and put together special christmas packages to be delivered to our seniors.
