CYO ATHLETICS
Mission Statement
The Archdiocese's mission is to give glory to God and help every soul attain eternal life through Jesus Christ. Empowered by prayer and led by the Holy Spirit, the archdiocese endeavors to go forth with apostolic boldness to unleash the Gospel. This involves using unique gifts to accompany others on their journey to encounter Jesus, grow as joyful missionary disciples, and give witness to Him in the world.
Philosophy
The Archdiocese of Detroit's CYO athletics program is grounded in the belief that sports should serve as a means for youth to grow in faith, character, and community. Key aspects include:
- Faith Integration: Athletics are viewed as an extension of youth ministry, providing opportunities for spiritual development through prayer, reflection, and the embodiment of Christian values in competition. cyodor.org
- Coaching as Ministry: Coaches are seen as mentors who guide athletes not only in sports skills but also in moral and ethical conduct, fostering an environment where athletic participation becomes a form of Christian service.
- Inclusive Participation: The program is designed to be inclusive, offering opportunities for all youth to participate, regardless of skill level, and emphasizing the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
PARTICIPATION
Organized sports provide our children with opportunities to grow and develop physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is our goal that this growth and development occur in an atmosphere which promotes and demonstrates our Catholic/Christian values. Accordingly, it is our goal that all activities of our sports program are conducted in a manner consistent with the values of good sportsmanship and fair play.
Eligibility
All St. Joseph School students and registered parishioners are eligible to participate. If not in enrolled at a Catholic School, players must be enrolled in a CCD program at their parish.
See the CYO Manual and/or the St. Joseph Athletics Handbook for more details.
Organization and Funding
The

Sports Committee to run this program. The St. Joseph Sports Committee is responsible for all aspects of the program including sign-ups, coach appointment, facilities maintenance, uniform and equipment purchases, and fundraising.
The Sports Program operates financially independent from the Parish. The Program is financially supported solely through fundraising, concession sales, player fees, and donations.

St. Joseph Athletic Handbook
The St. Joseph Sports Committee has developed a handbook to establish guidelines that expand on the Archdiocese of Detroit’s CYO Manual.
